Choosing the colour to suit your outdoor space

We see a fence as a backyard’s canvas, so we usually recommend simple colours. Light ones:  whites and light greys OR the dark palette: dark browns, charcoals and black. Colorbond colour palette which includes 14 hues, is a good example of beautiful, balanced shades inspired by nature.

How to decide on light versus dark fence colour

When deciding between light and dark colours we recommend that you consider:

1. The size of your backyard. If you have a smaller garden – white or light grey will add an illusion of space.  Bigger space – dark colour will look very contemporary and modern. 

2. Outdoor plants. Would you like to show off your outdoor plants? Monument, Basalt or Ironstone will make the green truly stand out. The colour we use most often in green garden fence makeovers, is Monument.

3. The style of your home. If your house is modern or you like the ‘beach’ style – white or a very light grey is your best choice – it will brighten the space up. We like Surfmist, Dune and Shale Grey.

For backyards with a swimming pool – darks looks awesome next to water (the colours we use most often with the swimming pools: Monument, Basalt, Black Ace).
