Can you paint a timber fence?
Yes – timber fences (including treated pine) take spray paint very well once properly prepared. It’s one of the most common fence types we respray in Perth.
What's the difference between painting and staining a timber fence?
Paint sits on top of the timber as an opaque coating, fully covering the wood grain and giving you any colour you like – including the modern greys and charcoals most Perth homeowners are after.
Stain soaks into the timber, letting the wood grain show through, with colour options limited to natural wood tones. We specialise in spray painting, not staining, because it gives a longer-lasting, more uniform finish and far more colour choice for transforming a dated fence.
Does timber need an undercoat before painting?
No. We use a flexible, self-priming paint system that expands and contracts with the timber, which is what keeps it resistant to cracking and peeling. Adding an undercoat underneath would remove that flexibility – so we apply the self-priming paint directly, exactly as specified by Dulux and Wattyl for timber.
How many coats do you spray?
We apply two full top coats of premium exterior paint on every timber fence — using Wattyl Solagard or Dulux Weathershield for even coverage and a long-lasting finish.
